What is Trusting God?

Updated: Dec 16, 2021

Webster dictionary defines trust as someone or something that is reliable, good, honest, or effective.

Hebrew translation of the word “trust” means to be without a care, (1 Peter 5:7), to be confident. Trust requires knowledge about a person or thing. It is important to gain knowledge about who God is.

Biblical trust is the combination of knowledge of God’s character; belief/confidence in God; submit to God.

Psalm 9:10 - Those who know your name will trust in You – get to know God’s character Isaiah 6:3 - God is holy and the whole earth is full of His glory 1 John 4:8 – Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love John 3:16 - God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. Romans 5:8 This is how God demonstrated his love…. Numbers 23:19 God is not a man to lie, nor a son of man, that He should change his mind Hebrews 6:18 God is trustworthy, it is impossible for God to lie.

Hebrews 11:6 –Without faith impossible to please God for he that comes to God must believe that He is; and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. Psalm 145:13 The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all He has made

Romans 4:21 And being fully convinced that what He had promised, He was able to perform 2 Peter 3:9 – The Lord is not slow in keeping his promises, He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. Nahum 1:7 – The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him. Psalm 34:8,10 - Taste and see that the Lord is good, those who seek the Lord lack no good thing James 1:17 – Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father John 14:27 – Peace I leave you, My peace I give to you, not as the world gives. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Isaiah 26:3 – God will keep you in perfect peace all who trust in Him, whose thoughts are fixed on Him.

The more that you know about God’s character through his Word, ways and His works you will trust Him:

Deuteronomy 3:21-22, gives an account of Moses reminding Joshua that he saw with his own eyes God’s faithfulness, his mighty works, his deliverance, power, protection, provision and promises. These Scriptures provide verified testimonies of God’s works that increase our trust in Him.

In our next post, we will share a way we can always remember to put our trust in God.
